Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, a Catholic, Dominican, independent, college-preparatory, day and boarding school for young women has an opening for an experienced Director of Marketing and Communications in our Advancement Office. The Director of Marketing and Communications will be responsible for implementing marketing, communications and public relations programs that support the overall strategic initiatives of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. This position reports to the Director of Advancement and works closely with each member of school leadership.
Implements FSHA marketing, public relations and communications activities as articulated in the strategic marketing plan
Manages marketing and communications budget
Develops all print advertising, print publications (including alumnae magazine and annual report), media relations and print recruitment communications to support the advancement, admissions and high school departments
Conducts formal and informal market research studies including, but not limited to: demographic studies, assessment of competitor schools as well as assessing knowledge and perception of FSHA among current, past and prospective families, and feeder schools
Analyze results and evaluate market trends to increase consistent recruitment of new students
Collaborates with the digital communications manager and administration to maintain consistent, ongoing communications with a wide variety of key constituents, including current and past parents and grandparents, prospective families and feeder schools, faculty and staff, Board, donors and alumnae
Ensures use of key message points in all FSHA communications, including publications, recruitment materials and media
Is a staff liaison to the marketing committee of the Board, working with the director of advancement and the digital communications manager
Is a key member of the crisis communications team, handling all media and public relations crises, internally and externally
Oversees all communications and collateral materials for ongoing capital campaign, including donor proposals, stewardship newsletters, cultivation videos, etc.
Writes and prepares press releases and proactively pitches stories that highlight our mission, activities on campus, fundraising activities and supports recruitment of new students
Crafts media strategy; maintains good working relationships with news media organizations; serves as the primary liaison between FSHA and news media, and manages media calls and inquiries; advises and assists FSHA administration in matters involving the media; determines the appropriateness of requests for information and formulates content, timing and manner of release.
Ensures that all communications from FSHA are accurate, consistent with our key messaging and reflect our core values
As needed, creates background and position statements for FSHA by interviewing faculty, Board and administration, and by reviewing core strategic and planning documents
Writing and Publications
Writes and edits feature articles for newspaper, magazines (View from the Top), annual report and brochures.
Provides writing/editing support and review of brochures, newsletters, promotional materials, event programs and invitations.
Manages the planning and production of all marketing and collateral materials, including publications, invitations and advertisements.
Assists departments with marketing communication services, especially the admissions and the advancement departments.
Works with outside subcontractors for the timely design and printing production of all printed material
Photography and Design
Works with staff and outside photographers to cover all necessary functions and to ensure all photography is completed using the guidelines from the style guide
Must be fluent in Adobe InDesign and have working knowledge of additional Adobe Creative Suite programs
Art directs photo shoots and video shoots
Works collaboratively with the Digital Communications Manager in developing comprehensive plan to integrate social media into marketing and communications efforts
Ensures that FSHA’s social media presence meets strategic communications objectives
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related discipline; Minimum of 5 years’ experience in marketing/public relations
Strategic thinker, strong leadership and consensus building skills
Strong project management skills; must be able to juggle multiple projects with multiple vendors and meet deadlines
Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills required; polished presentation and interpersonal skills; strong relationship management skills required
Good knowledge of MS Office Suite and windows-based computer applications; fluency in Adobe InDesign; Working knowledge of the rest of Adobe Creative Suite
Flexibility to travel and attend periodic evening and/or weekend planned events
