The director of communications develops, executes, and managescommunications programs for UT System administration; provides public relationscounsel to senior leadership; develops communication strategies for andcoordinates communication activity related to UT President's office, forPresident and executive team, Board of Trustees and other system entities orinitiatives; manages and ensures compliance with all public information, publiccommunication, public records and open meetings requirements for UT Systemadministration; and coordinates communication between UT System and allcampuses and enterprises as needed.
The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Communicationsand Marketing, which reports to the Executive Vice President and ChiefOperating Officer.
·Work collaboratively with Office of Communications andMarketing team to develop and implement communication strategy andcommunications with potential to critically impact
external and internal perceptions of the university systemstatewide and beyond.
·Advise and counsel senior leadership in PR / communication /event policymaking for the University.
·Develop / collaborate or manage communication plans/supportfor major initiatives or events.
·Evaluate communication plans/approaches,post-implementation, for reporting out as needed and to determine effectivenessor areas for future improvement.
·Identify and implement opportunities to integrate key messagesinto varied forms of communication across multiple platforms.
·Support communication by the president, administration andboard through assistance in development of speeches, talking points,presentations, backgrounders, briefing documents, and issue research.
·Serve as official spokesperson and public informationofficer for UT System Administration with local, state and national media.
·Manage responses to media inquiries, statements/officialpositions, requests for interviews with System officials/UT trustees.
·Manage responses to public record requests to ensure legaland University protocols are followed and appropriate University personnel madeaware of potential follow-up inquiry or information distribution.
·Oversee (as executive editor) Tennessee Alumnus magazine,including visual and written content and design in print and online.
·Oversee administration of UT System social media accounts.
·The position currently supervises two full-time positionsand works closely with the creative services team.
