AAFA is building out its marketing and communications capacity and we are looking for a Marketing Communications Manager to join our team. As Marketing Communications Manager, you will serve in a key role to advance the mission of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) by promoting AAFA communications and managing its public perception across communications and public relations channels.
You will help develop and refine the Foundation's integrated marketing communications strategy to increase the Foundation's visibility, relevance and engagement among key constituencies and markets, using traditional and non-traditional communication vehicles and channels, advertising, online marketing, e-newsletters, conferences and exhibits, collateral, television, videos, and social media. You will also assist in managing key measurement focused marketing and communications programs.
The communications strategy also includes effective communications to attract influencers, donors and partners to support the Foundation's mission to improve the quality of life for people with asthma and allergic diseases.
You will also provide support to internal customers by using your skills and insights on a variety of programs and campaigns.
Reporting to the Marketing Communications Director, you will need a high degree of energy, creativity and latitude as well as a high level of initiative and resourcefulness.
Assist in refining the AAFA integrated marketing communications strategy to ensure communications to key constituents are clear, impactful, creative, results oriented and consistent/aligned where appropriate.
Create and execute innovative, targeted communications programs to drive demand for the Foundation's programs and services with the outcome of increased engagement with our digital properties and online communities.
Develop innovative, targeted communications programs to drive engagement with policy makers, regulators and relevant organizations within the pharmaceutical, medical device, government and healthcare services industries.
Execute public relations strategy, and assist in creating presentations, speeches and talking points given by the CEO/President and other spokespersons.
Assist in managing content strategy for AAFA's print and electronic newsletter programs focused on patients, their families, caregivers, clinicians and researchers. Manage newsletter schedule and measure the effectiveness of the mailings.
Refine and manage communication and promotion of AAFA’s policy and market research reports including Allergy Capitals and Asthma Capitals.
Work collaboratively with other departments to maintain web content, utilizing established editorial guidelines, for the patient-centric websites including content audit, copy creation, editing and/or updating, design changes and measurement.
Leverage website and web-based technologies, social media, web analytics and search engine optimization (SEO) to effectively market to patients and other stakeholders and to maximize promotional efforts and brand awareness.
Assist in managing the Foundation's Google Adwords accounts to maximize the value of the Google Grants awarded to the Foundation. Create and monitor ads and keywords. Leverage marketing communications with affiliated partners, including chapters, support groups and community awareness partners (CAPS) to maximize brand awareness and other business objectives in local communities.
Develop compelling content for new events, product/service launches and promotional campaigns including messaging development and implementation through strategic communication tactics that align with business objectives.
Assist in creating business development and marketing collateral (for example, brochures, media kits, presentations).
Ensure all communications programs maintain and reinforce the AAFA brand as a respected organization that advocates on behalf of Americans who experience asthma and/or allergic disease
Implement trade show strategy and execution plan that addresses the goals of all departments and includes pre, during and post trade show activities and measurement (brand, messaging, design, editorial opportunities, metrics) across the asthma and allergy space.
Administration and Metrics
Provide oversight to the maintenance and organization of AAFA's mailing lists. Assist in creating segmented lists and target audiences.
Track website, social media, news stories and other performance metrics.
Collaborate with outside agencies and vendors (advertising, communications and digital agencies, public relations firms, fulfillment houses, photographers, videographers, exhibit houses) on communication program development and execution.
Skills & Knowledge
Demonstrated competence communicating to consumers, media, business and/or regulatory organizations using both traditional and new media marketing channels
Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts
Strong writing and editing skills are essential: to include business communications, promotional copy, web and email content, press materials, blogging, strategic targeted messaging, etc.
Demonstrated effectiveness in public relations and in working with the media
Experience utilizing a variety of social media channels and monitoring tools to effectively engage and motivate target audiences
Experience with, or willingness to learn techniques for, incorporating health literacy concepts into patient-focused communications.
Knows how to get things done, overcome obstacles, and respect others' points of view and positions
High level of teamwork and interpersonal skills
Competency using project management tools to plan and execute work.
Working knowledge of the functionalities of a CRM database.
Basic knowledge of allergic diseases and/or asthma preferred
At least two years' experience in marketing communications to include:
Experience in creating and executing effective and engaging multi-faceted marketing and communications strategies for multiple audiences
Experience developing and implementing public relations activities to enhance branding and increase constituent engagement
Experience working with MailChimp and its advanced features for list management, segmentation and managing success of campaigns.
At least two years' experience in social media marketing or content marketing
At least one year of experience creating print marketing materials and communications programs
Experience working in a matrixed organization preferred
Experience working for a patient advocacy organization preferred
Experience engaging policy-making or government regulatory agencies preferred
Experience organizing events and issues through proactive messaging and outreach
Demonstrated success in crisis communications, including the ability to grasp and appropriately respond to both internally and external precipitated crises.
Bachelor's degree required, major in marketing, communications, business or related field preferred.
