The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) seeks a qualified, skilled public relations and marketing professional to manage local and regional media buying, public communications and marketing for Virginia State Parks eastern region. The eastern region covers three of the six districts and includes 18 parks across Central Virginia, Hampton Roads and the Tidewater region and Northern Virginia.
This position develops, monitors and evaluates local and regional marketing, advertising and public relations functions to increase attendance and awareness of the parks. The position will collaborate with the park management and staff on marketing plans and budgets. This position helps develop the statewide marketing plan, develop and track a regional action plan, advertising plan and budget. The position also serves as the media spokesperson when necessary. Strong writing and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Regional, statewide and some overnight travel is required. The position is based out of Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield County however bi-weekly meetings are held at Main Street Centre in downtown Richmond. This position co-supervises a Marketing Assistant.
This position is part of the Public Communications Office (PCO), the office that manages public relations, marketing, advertising, the website, videography and graphic design for the Department of Conservation and Recreation, which manages Virginia State Parks. The State Parks public relations and marketing team is responsible for presenting State Parks as a cohesive division of the DCR.
