Posting Summary: The Senior Associate Director, Direct Marketing will develop and execute the strategy for a multi-channel, donor-centric communication strategy, engaging constituents throughout the annual giving cycle, from identification to solicitation to stewardship. The channels used include direct mail, telemarketing, digital, and emerging opportunities. The successful candidate will oversee the development of these annual giving strategies for the Office of the President, Leadership Giving (Rotunda Society), and University Advancement partners (ex. Faculty support, Jeffersonian Grounds Initiative, Parents Fund, Scholarships, UVA Clubs) as well as providing project management support for select University Advancement initiatives. The Senior Associate Director will manage the Direct Marketing team.
Required Minimum Level of Education: *Degree Required
Required Specific Degree/Training: Bachelor's degree
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Required Specific Experience: Experience in fundraising, alumni relations, marketing or a related field.
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Extensive - 7 years plus
Preferred Specific Experience: Experience in a higher education or sales/marketing setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and oral communications skills are required. Demonstrate an ability to manage and motivate staff, and collaborate with staff to plan, organize and implement direct marketing strategies.
The Senior Associate Director should have a proven ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people, and to work independently and as part of a team. Strong customer-service orientation and consensus-building skills. Skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Ability to travel.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of direct marketing practices, programs and other functional areas of development. Vendor management and negotiation skills. Ability to demonstrate to staff how their daily activities contribute to the goals of University Advancement.
