HFS, an auxiliary unit within the Division of Student Life at UW, provides on-campus housing to over 8,000 student residents and operates over 40 dining and café venues that serve the entire campus community. HFS staff members support the University's focus on the undergraduate student experience through a multitude of programs and services in order to provide students with a smooth transition to living on their own. HFS's Communications and Marketing (ComMar) unit is looking to add a Marketing Specialist to the team. The Marketing Specialist serves as a contributing member of the ComMar team, and supports the communications and marketing goals and activities of HFS through collaboration with team members and HFS units. This support includes recommending and executing marketing, communication and social media strategies, as well as developing plans, programs and promotions, and managing projects.
What you'll do in this role:
Act as a marketing liaison to HFS clients.
Provide timely and ongoing communication related to the status of projects and plans.
Understand and convey the mission of HFS, seeking opportunities to inform partners and colleagues about marketing and areas of expertise.
Collaborate with others on the ComMar team with continual process improvement in mind.
Proactively problem-solve unique issues as they arise and engage team in solutions.
Develop and execute marketing plans and campaigns to support a portfolio of projects and initiatives.
Conduct marketing meetings to review performance of plans.
Perform activities including email marketing, advertising event promotion for HFS events and initiatives.
Conduct data gathering through market research to inform sound marketing recommendations and/or support client business planning.
Collect and evaluate performance metrics for marketing campaigns, social media, video, email and other activities.
Ensure work is in alignment with established Department and University vision and values, and policies for messaging, communications, information design, graphics, and photography.
Act as a subject matter expert, content creator and strategist for ComMar's social media accounts, with a focus on video and emergent media trends.
Ensure that marketing deliverables are scheduled, completed on time and within budget.
Serve as a resource to HFS unit leadership through coordination of newsletter and email campaigns, development of promotional and programmatic opportunities, and writing and editing of copy.
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising or Communications.
Two years of experience leading, developing and executing social media strategy.
Experience managing, creating and curating content for YouTube; Snapchat experience a plus.
Ability to learn and master emerging digital tools such as Marketo and Kentico.
Technical skills in video storyboarding and production (Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro).
Basic skills in graphic design (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
Attention to detail, high level of professionalism and strong customer service orientation.
Experience developing and executing marketing plans in a higher Ed and/or retail environment.
Ability to meet challenging timelines and work in a fast paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
Condition of Employment
A satisfactory outcome from criminal background verification is required prior to hire.
Position maintains regular office hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with regular evening work to participate in student meetings and programming; occasional weekend work to participate in special events.
