The Director of Marketing for the Electronic Retailing Association (ERA) is responsible for overseeing the association’s strategy and implementation around its communications, marketing, publication, and education initiatives. Duties include outward facing communication programs and marketing to raise awareness, attendance, and revenue for ERA programs and events.
The Director of Marketing will develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications plan for the entire association. This position serves as a primary resource for the development of messaging and materials for ERA. In addition, this position oversees the association’s education programs at its two conferences – the Great Ideas Summit and the D2C Convention.
This position reports to ERA’s Executive Vice President. The Director is both a strategic and tactical, and actively builds and maintains strong partnerships with key staff including but not limited to the VP of Sales, VP of Membership, VP of Government Affairs, and Executive Vice President to develop coordinated marketing and communication efforts in an effective manner.
The Director of Marketing develops and implements a comprehensive strategic marketing plan for the entire organization. This position serves as a primary resource for the development of messaging and both print and digital materials for the association.
Creates and implements a clear marketing vision and strategy that leverages the ERA brand and our unique industry position
Ensures the timely development and execution of comprehensive marketing plans and strategies on an annual basis.
Key emphasis to be placed on registration revenue for ERA events
Works with sponsorship and sales team to drive advertising revenue for publications
Works with the sales team to and sales materials for sponsorship and event sales (i.e. sponsor prospectus for events)
Ensures that publication, website, and communication-related sponsorship/exhibit benefits are implemented
Responsible for the planning and executive of marketing for all ERA programs, services, and events
Develops marketing email marketing collateral for review and approval by ERA sales/sponsorship, membership, events, and executive vice president (and VP of Government Affairs for the Government Affairs Fly-In)
Leads the creation of all print collateral for events including printed programs and other onsite materials
Works with content manager to develop paid advertising on ERA’s social media platforms
Works with the VP of membership on the development of membership recruiting and retention materials including but not limited to Powerpoint presentations, sales sheets, membership cards, general recruitment emails
Works with VP of membership and Content Manager to develop new member announcements including press release for website and new member interviews
Manages relationship between ERA and MCI USA’s creative services team for the development of print and electronic collateral
Works with industry partners to develop and implement appropriate media swaps in consultation with VP of Sales
Tracks and measures effectiveness of all marketing efforts; generates reports for staff and Board of Directors
The Director is integrally involved with members, volunteers, sponsors, the board of directors, and staff to executive the association’s communication efforts. This position is responsible for the strategy and execution of all ERA content and communications.
Oversees member communications, including the production and distribution of online content, promotional emails and e-newsletters
Manages and implements the creation of communication campaigns around ERA programs and services, working with staff.
Collects, analyzes and applies metrics across all ERA communications platforms — press releases, emails, newsletters and social media.
Responsible for overseeing ERA’s blog and social media efforts which are led by the Content Manager
Develops of press releases for ERA events and announcements including but not limited to event speakers, award winners, staff announcements for the D2C Convention, Great Ideas Summit, and Moxie Awards
Works with ERA members and content manager to post member-provided press releases, news, and announcements on ERA’s website
Serves as staff liaison to editorial committee
The Director drives content marketing for live and in-person education events including the Great Ideas Summit and D2C Convention. Working with the Content Committee (made up of volunteers of members) and the Board of Directors, the Director will help craft content for ERA’s educational efforts. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Crafts session descriptions in consultation with confirmed speakers
Assembles and proofreads all copy for preliminary and final programs including educational content for event websites
The Director will lead the association’s publications and content efforts to disseminate both ERA and direct response news to its members and the industry. This person will develop and lead the strategies that expand the knowledge and awareness of direct response and ERA’s role within the industry. The association will be terminating its print magazine at the end of 2017 and the director will be instrumental in identifying and developing a new content strategy that increases knowledge of ERA activities and its members; but also provides mechanisms to generate revenue through content sponsorship and advertising revenue.
Oversees the organization’s web assets including but not limited to the association’s website (www.retailing.org), Great Ideas Summit website (http://www.retailing.org/greatideas), D2C Convention website (d2c.retailing.org) and all related HubSpot assets (blog, resource libraries).
Facilitates updates website content to ensure timely dissemination of information including homepage graphics
With marketing team, creates landing pages for ERA events with registration forms and related content using Hubspot platform
In consultation with the Executive Vice President, develops presentations for regular Board of Director meetings
Develops marketing, communications, content, publication and education related reports for ERA Board Meetings
Participates in all in-person and conference call Board Meetings
Travel as needed for ERA events, conferences, and other association related functions
Complete MCI USA timesheets
Serve on appropriate MCI USA Matrix Management Teams; and
Function as a MCI USA Team Member in accordance with MCI USA’s corporate vision and guiding principles.
This position oversees ERA’s Content and Marketing Managers
The Director of Marketing has direct financial supervisory responsibility over the association’s overall marketing and publications departments, in addition to individual marketing lines for various events and programs.
Qualifications and Experience:
Strong copywriting and proofreading skills
Strong project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize against deadlines
Creative approach to design and ability to translate concepts into high-quality products working with in-house graphic designer
Expertise in email marketing/marketing automation programs for a trade association or professional society
Bachelor’s degree required; further education a plus
10 years of marketing experience
5+ years of experience in new media/digital environment
