Oversees the strategic direction of direct marketing and alumni affairs communication channels focused on specific audiences. Ensures appropriate fundraising and alumni engagement plans are in place and monitors ongoing activity. Partnering with the Senior Director and Development Communications team, ensures that each channel works in coordination with one another for increased effectiveness. The Assistant Director will focus on timing, segmentation, messaging, tracking, reporting, analysis and project management.
Partners with creative contributors, print vendors, data and operations group and fundraisers to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget. Manages project plans, approver review process, and timelines to ensure team is staying on track with project tasks and deliverables. Effectively applies our methodology, leverages best practices, and enforces project standards. Organizes meetings and requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders, and manages day-to-day progress and updates for large-scale fundraising campaigns, individual appeals, pledge reminders, Reunion marketing, Alumni Quarterly Email, Reunion Reports and more. Communicates at the appropriate frequency with stakeholders. Ensures that project documents are complete, current, and available to team and stored appropriately.
Manages relationship with direct mail vendor. Responsibilities range from working with vendor to develop the print appeal schedule, ensure print quality standards are met, ensure deadlines and budgets are met and more.
Compiles appeal data and evaluates analytics related to audience-specific marketing strategies, integrating direct marketing channels with reunion and annual campaign efforts, to assesses trends and develop corresponding plans for optimal results. Reports results to HMS AA&D Senior Leadership.
Serves as in-house expert on direct marketing programs and strategies for HMS AA&D. Partners closely with Development Communications to ensure mail and email appeals align with industry standards, process and strategies. Conducts performance management for calling program staff.
Plays vital role in influencing and managing alumni participation rates. Coordinates closely with Alumni Engagement staff to inform strategy related to participation-level activity and building a future donor pipeline throughout the close of – and beyond – the Harvard Campaign.
Manages Reunion Report book project, collaborating with Director of Development Technologies, Senior Director of Development Communications, and vendors to assess and develop a multi-generational strategy, collect data and alumni essays, edit, and publish books for reunion classes within specified budget.
Collaborates with Alumni Engagement staff and Student Affairs staff to produce and publish the Yearbook for the senior class.
Cultivates favorable relationships and works closely throughout the year, to help accomplish above goals, with colleagues across departments, including, but not limited to, Development Communications, Development Technology, Donor Relations, and external partners and vendors.

Bachelor's degree required. 3+ years of related experience with a preference for direct marketing, publications, project management, or other related area.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, organizational capabilities and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Possess an entrepreneurial skill set to identify and execute on best direct marketing practices, both within and outside of the Harvard community. The ability to communicate and work with people at all levels. A demonstrated track record of successful project management. He/ she must exercise sound judgment and confidentiality in working with prospects, volunteers, and HMS staff.
