Walnut Hill School for the Arts seeks a proactive, high-energy, and creative Marketing and Communications Associate to support a fast-paced Creative Department that's continually seeking to set new standards for independent school marketing. The Marketing and Communications Associate plays a crucial role in developing strategic content to increase visibility and awareness of the School. A skilled marketing and communications professional, this member of the team works across the entire school community to help create a wide variety of communications materials, both print and online.
Project Management: The Marketing and Communications Associate oversees and helps to manage all ongoing creative projects and will work with other departments and constituencies to support various projects. Specific duties include, but are not limited to--Tracking results of each marketing/ communications initiative, and helping to create an integrated dashboard to share with trustees, school leadership, and internal partners on a yearly basis. Work with internal partners and the rest of the Creative Department to create a yearly integrated marketing communications plan, with corresponding calendar and budget. Work with individual internal partners to optimize key messages, formulate solutions to communications gaps, creating content that informs and educates. Cultivate relationships with external constituents including press/media and leaders across arts disciplines. Use media outlets to generate publicity and attendance for campus performances. Work with staff in admissions, student life, development, IT, arts, and academics to keep the school's web sites current and dynamic (written content, photos, video).
Content Creation: Write, edit, and send electronic newsletters to the school's various internal and external audiences. Help maintain up to date email lists and manage MailChimp contacts. Create and organize content for the school's print and online alumni magazine. Manage outsourced video team in all video projects throughout the year -- videos typically feature members of the community, visiting artists, alumni, school-based events, and other content. Schedule and oversee photographers as needed to photograph special School events as well as keep the School's photo stock current and representative of the School community and programs.
Social Media: Maintain a compelling and current presence across the School's social media channels by utilizing new tools and features, understanding changing algorithms, and demonstrate a willingness to explore international channels. Continually work to improve the School's SEO by aligning it with the overall social media plan.
Community Involvement: As a boarding school, Walnut Hill strives to cultivate and promote the value of "Community" to internal and external constituencies. The Marketing and Communications Associate will Attend and engage in School events to capture compelling story ideas--write articles, take photographs, and create content to share the life of the school with our community and beyond.
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum 3 - 5 years experience in an integrated marketing/communications role
Proven success as a project manager, skilled writer, and confident communicator
High standards for quality across a variety of media, and an ability to elicit the same from outside vendors
Able to work collaboratively with a diverse set of internal and external constituents
Comfortable thinking strategically and working tactically
An "ear to the ground" for new tools and opportunities to create and leverage unique content
An ability to work independently, with acute attention to detail
Knowledge of html/CSS and MailChimp preferred but not required
Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, etc. preferred but not required
